Dear Sir:

This special report is submitted in accordance with LaSalle Unit 1 Operating License NPF-II, Appendix B, Technical Specifications 3.7.5.1 and 6.6.c.

On June 23,1982 et 0200, during a diesel fi re pump weekly survel11ance (LOS-FP-W2), the OB Diesel Fire Pump was observed to have a " pegged high" temcerature indication. As a result, the diesel was shutdown and taken out of service to protect the equipment from further damage.

The OA Diesel Fire Pump was also inoperative and out of service at that time due to fuel oil line repairs.

Both diesels were declared inoperative in accordance with technical specification 3.7 5.1.

While both dieseis were inoperative, backup service water tie valves were verified open, maintaining fire protection at all t i ces .

. The Diesel Fire Pump OB overheated as a result of a failed cooling water solenoid operated valve. Upon investigation, the coil of the solenoid operated valve was found to be burnt. The diesel did not receive sufficient cooling water and consequently overheated Operability was restored to the OA Diesel Fire Pump on June 23, 1982 at 1510. -

The fuel oil leak was repaired by installing a replacenient fuel line. The OB Diesel Fire Pump was returned to operability on June 28, 1982, at 1756 af ter installation of a new coil and a complete diesel inspection. Post

- maintenance revealed no degredation to the diesel. Both Diesel Fi re Pumps

- were test run in accordance with LOS-FP-W2 before operability was declared.
