SUBJECT; NPDES Discharge Monitoring Report San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station, Unit 3 l l

l The NPDES Discharge Monitoring Report (DMR) for San Onofre Unit 3 covering the month of l December is submitted in accordance with the requirements of order No. 94-50 (NPDES Permit l No. CA 0108081). A summary of the generating unit's status and significant analytical results is provided below.  ;

The unit was in operation all month and all sampled water sources were found to be within permit i limits.  !

On December 2,1994 the chlorination system on Unit 3 operated for two hours and two minutes.

This exceeded the two hour per day limit in the NPDES permit for total residual oxidants. An -

improper timer setting in the chlorination system resulted in the two minute exceedence. Actions have been taken to verify timer settings in the future to prevent reoccurrence.

f At 1230 on December 19,1994, a sewage line upset occurred south of the Unit 3 holddown area.

Blockage in the line resulted in an overflow of approximately 50 gallons of raw sewage into the yard drain system. The area of the spill was disinfected with 5 gallons of sodium hypochlorite.

After disinfection, the sewage spill went through the yard drain system to the Unit 3 outfall. Greg Peters ofyour staff was notified about the incident at approximately 1505 that same day. The blockage in the sewage line was then cleared and the line was then returned to service.

Pursuant to Order No. 94-50, Reporting Requirement 10, the following representative has prepared and is authorized to sign the reports required by this order: Robert K. Heckler, Environmental Engineer.
