VIRGINIA ELECTRIC AND POWER COMPANY NORTH ANNA POWER STATION UNIT NOS.1 AND 2 INSPECTION REPORT NOS. 50-338/94-27 AND 50-339/94-27 NRC Inspection Report Nos. 50-338, 339/94-27, dated December 13, 1994, documented the results of a routine announced inspection at North Anna Power Station that included Icw level radioactive waste storage contingencies.
The inspection was conducted November 14-18, 1994. We have reviewed the inspection report and have one comment.
Item 7 of the Report Details (page 9) discusses the low level radioactive waste storage contingency plans in the event that the low level radioactive waste disposal facility at Barnwell, South Carolina closes as planned on December 31,1995. As stated in the inspection report, Virginia Electric and Power Company is in the early stages of formulating its plans. The completion of the site's Radwaste Facility, or at least the completion of the specific areas to be used for the storage of radiologically-contaminated materials, is currently envisioned. However, the inspection report then goes on to state, " Eventually spent fuel may be stored there." The latter statement is

incorrect. The Radwaste Facility has never been intended to be used for spent fuel storage. The Radwaste Facility is designed only for the storage and/or processing of low level radioactive waste.
