I CP&L Carolina Power & Light Company SERIAL: LAP-83-432 SEP 271983 Director of Nuclear Reactor Regulation Attention:
Mr. D. B. Vassallo, Chief Operating Reactors Branch No. 2 Division of Licensing United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, DC 20555 BRUNSWICK STEAM ELECTRIC PLANT, UNIT NO. 1 DOCKET NOS. 50-325 LICENSE NOS. DPR-71 INSPECTION OF BWR STAINLESS STEEL PIPING
Dear Mr. Vassallo:
By letter dated August :9, 1983 (SERIAL: LAP-83-390), Carolina Power & Light Company committed to i'spect three large diameter recirculation system piping welds on Brunswick Unit.%. I during the outage scheduled to begin between November 1983 and March 19 d.
Our outage plans for Brunswick-1 have changed, and the current plan is to pe. 6rm these inspections during an outage that is scheduled to begin in October.183.
The welds to be inspected originally included weld number 1-B32-28-A-15, which was repaired by weld overlay during the last outage.
Because of the short operating time with that repair in place, weld number 1-B32-28-A-14 will be substituted. This weld has a stress rule index of 1.513, a carbon content of 0.059 percent, and an IGSCC susceptibility rank of 1.
All welds that were repaired will be inspected during the next refueling outage.
If you have any questions concerning this information, please contact our staff.
Yours very truly, O.
