August 17, 1983 letter from D. L. Farrar to J. G. Keppler
Dear Mr. Keppler:
This letter is provided to clarify commitments documented in reference (a) regarding HVAC installation work at Braidwood Station.
These clarifications were requested by Mr. Robert Schulz to botter document actions previously agreed upon.
They do not involve any changes to the actions already underway.
Tt.e following comments clarify actions la through ld of reference (a) relative to HVAC contractor procedure changes at Braidwood Station:
la) Records of all filler metal (not only weld rod) will be kept for material traceability purposes.
lb) Weld procedure and weld material will be specified prior to craft welding activities by competent personnel not directly involved in production welding.
In no case will the welder or his foreman be relied upon to select the proced.ure or material.
Ic) The QC surveillance of in-process welding will include inspection of a portion of the welding.
Fitup will be included in these inspections, ld) Before weld metal 11s added to existing welds, the acceptability of those welds will be determined.
The basis for these determinations will be available for NRC review.
