Oyster Creek Nuclear Genemting Station Docket No. 50-219 IE Bulletin No. 78-14 Commitment The subject bulletin concerned the deterioration of BUNA-N components in ASCO solenoid valves in BWR control rw! 3 cram systems. GPUN committed to expand the Oyster Creek Preventive Maintenance Program to include the inspection and replacement of the BUNA-N material in each valve on a periodic basis to assure that the components are not used in excess of (7) years.
The GE BWROG has collaborated with GE and ASCO to develop a replacement scam solenoid pilot valve (SSPV) with a longer life than the one currently in use. The BUNA-N elastomers in the existing SSPV's have been replaced with a VITON-A elastomer during our recent 15R outage to provide a more durable component. Accordingly, the service life of the new component is a minimum 15 years.
Therefore, since all BUNA-N components havc been replaced, our commitment made to you in 1979 has been completed.
