Dear Mr. Quamme:

Reference:

BEBC - 8157 Bechtel has received notification from Crosby Valve Company that the Midland main steam isolation valves (MSIV's) have a potentially re-portable problem with pitting in the packing areas. Construction has been requested by Project Engineering to perfom a pneumatic drop leak test to assure the MSIV's will not leak and possibly affect the upcoming Unit 2 Turbine Roll. Specifically, the MSIV valve bodies must be pressurized to 100 psig through the valve body drain and then monitored for leakage. Based on the above, we request that a special release of the current mechanical FCR/FCN stop work be granted to pemit the testing as out-lined below: 1) Utilize Construction Work Plan (CWP) No. 16-2ABB-M-2924, which has L been prepared for this work and requires the use of dwgs. 7220-M118A-5-7 and 7220-M118A-10-4 as field work prints.

2) A Field Inspection Record (FIR) and QCIR MP-1.60 will be prepared to cover the necessary QC inspection. This FIR and PQCI/IR re-l quires the following documents to be issued as controlled work j

Drints to MPQAD: a) M342 e) M118-A-10-4 b) M490 f) M632 Sht. 2 c) M480 g) M632 Sht. 3 d) M118-A-5-7 These referenced inspection records will not be closed until the DRR l has been reviewed.-
