L30-84 (01 -26 )-L 500 SOUTH 27TH STREET, DECATUR, ILUNOIS 62525 January 26, 1984 Docket No. 50-461 Director of Nuclear Reactor Regulation Attention:

Mr. A. Schwencer, Chief Licensing Branch No. 2 Division of Licensing U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, D.C.

20555

Subject:

Clinton Power Station Unit 1 Control of Heavy Loads (NUREG-0612)

Dcar Mr. Schwencer:

Reference:

G. E. Wuller (IP) letter to D. G. Eisenhut U-0294; September 25, 1981 In the above reference, IP stated that the Fuel Building C ane (FBC) would be permanently prevented from travel over the Spent Fuel Storage Pool (SFSP).

IP would like to clarify its inten-tions.

The FBC is currently used for construction activities around the SFSP.

It will also be used to transfer the initial core load into the SFSP for temporary storage before placement into the Reactor Vessel.

Permanent crane rail stops will be installed prior to fuel load to prevent FBC travel over the SFSP throughout the remaining plant life.

FBC travel over the SFSP during initial core loading activities does not affect IP's compliance with NUREG-0612.

Sincerely yours, C. Mc e.
