Robinson Unit 2 Docket No. 50-261-OLA ASLBP No. 83-484-03LA

Dear Dr. Ruoff:

I am enclosing a list of questions and document requests prepared by CP&L in order to understand the assumptions and cal-culations embodied in ESRG's January 20, 1983, cost comparison of the retirement vs. steam generator replacement alternative for Robinson 2.

A number of the questions ask for copies of the workpapers and data or the computer inputs and outputs used in developing the ESRG projections.

These documents would in our view prove from ESRG's standpoint the simplest, and from CPSL's standpoint the most informative, means of complying with CP&L's information requests.

Recognizing that time is short, we have asterisked those questions and document requests to which we most urgently need a response.

We request that an immediate answer to these items be sent by express mail to CP&L (attention Mr.

B. Mitchell Williams) with the balance to follcw as soon as possible.

Ruoff January 26, 1984 Page Two When we have received answers we may need to ask more follow-up questions and for this reason I have asked that ESRG be prepared to meet with us next week at their offices in Boston if this proves necessary.

CP&L is prepared to reimburse ESRG for the reasonable costs of reproducing the documents requested.

A copy of this letter and its enclosure have been sent by Federal Express to Dr. Raskin at ESRG.
