Dear Mr. Keppler:

INTERIM 10CFR 50.55 (e) REPORT NO. U-46 CALLAWAY PLANT On January 27, 1983, Union Electric reported a potential 10CFR50.55(e) deficiency to Mr. Julian Hinds, NRC Region III.

The deficiency involves a number of structural steel bolts that were found to be not tightened to specification requirements after the connections.had been considered complete. This deter-mination was made by observation of the associated load indicating washers.

On February 25, 1983, an update was provided to Mr. John Neisler, NRC Resident Inspector, stating that a preliminary inspection of selected bolted connections had been performed and the results were undergoing evaluation.

The evaluation.has been completed and, based on the preliminary inspection results, we have concluded that the structural adequacy of the connections does not appear to be affected.

We are in the final stages of inspecting all connections and will prepare a final report upon completion. The final report is expected to be issued by March 1, 1984.
