Oyster Creek Nuclear Generating Station (0CNGS)

Docket No. 50-219 Facility Operating License No. DPR-16 Core Shroud Enhancement - Response to NRC Questions

References:

(1) NRC Ltr., "0yster Creek Nuclear Generating itation Core Shroud Repair (TAC No. M90104)", dated Novem' et 9,1994.

J (2) GPU Nuclear Ltr. C321-94-2185, " Core Shroud - 15R Outage Enhancement", dated October 25, 1994.

Attached is GPU Nuclear's response to the NRC Staff's request for additional information (Reference 1).

Some of the Reference 1 questions relate to future shroud enhancement tie rod system hardware in-service inspection. As agreed, at our meeting with the NRC Staff on November 4, 1994, GPU Nuclear does not consider this requirement to be a 15R Refueling Outage restart issue. GPU Nuclear will define our inspection scope no later than six months prior to Oyster Creek's 16R Refueling Outage and include it as part of our reactor vessel internals examination.

If requested, GPU Nuclear will submit these plans for your review at that time.

The present schedule for the 16R Refueling Outage is October 1996.

C321-94-2337 Page 2 This additional time will allow GPU Nuclear to define a comprehensive inspection plan incorporating any new knowledge acquired between now and then, by which time other additional industry shroud inspections and/or repairs would be accomplished and additional intelligence gained.

GPU Nuclear expects that the development of our inspection plan will include interactions with the appropriate VIP committees that address this requirement generically.

The attached response contains information determined to be proprietary, and the affidavit, as required by 10CFR2.790(b)(1) and submitted in Reference 2, remains valid and in effect for this followup submittal.
