Subject:

Docket No. 50-482: Special Report 94-003 - Steam Generator Tube Plugging Report Gentlemen:

This letter provides information regarding the number of tubes plugged in each steam generator as required by Wolf Creek Generating Station Technical Specification 4.4.5.5. This technical specification requires, in part, that the number of tubes plugged in each steam generator be reported to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission within 15 days following the completion of each inservice inspection of the steam generator tubes.

The inservice inspection of Steam Generators "A" and "D" was completed on October 11, 1994. This inservice inspection included the removal of 34 Inconel 600 mechanical tube plugs from Steam Generator "D" (17 tubes). Six of these tubes were returned to service following additional inservice inspections and the remaining 11 tubes were replugged with 22 Inconel 690 mechanical tube plugs. This completes the replacement of Inconel 600 mechanical tube plugs as required by NRC Bulletin No. 89-01, " Failure of Westinghouse Steam Generator Tube Mechanical Plugs," for all steam generators at Wolf Creek Generating Station.

In addition to the replacement of the Inconel 600 mechanical tube plugs, 24

, tubes in Steam Generator "D" and nine tubes in Steam Generator "A" were l mechanically plugged due to indications found during the inservice inspection.

Also, five stub-type bare hole plugs were mechanically plugged and one bar-type bare hole plug was removed and replaced with a welded plug in Steam Generator "A". Three other bar-type bare hole plugs in Steam Generator "A" were inspected with Motorized Rotating Pancake Coil and found acceptable.
