Catawba Nuclear Station Docket Nos. 50-413 and 50-414 Closure of Generic 12tter 88-14, " Instrument Air" The purpose of this letter is to provide notice to your staff that all outstanding activities related to Generic letter 88-14, " Instrument Air", have been completed at Catawba Nuclear Station.
I By letter dated October 20, 1993, Duke Power Company provided a status of outstanding.
activities relative to certain licensing issues, one of which related to activities associated with NRC Generic lettei 88-14, " Instrument Air". This letter provided notice of intention and schedule for one (1) outstanding Generic Letter 88-14 commitment, relative to condensation concerns for lines subjected to temperatures below 40*F. Catawba committed to implement a modification to replace the four (4) 700 CFM refrigerated air dryers with' two (2) 2000 CFM desiccant dryers, via Station Modification CN-50431, by the end of 1994.
The new desiccant Instrument Air Dryers have been installed and the Instrument Air Quality Test was successfully completed on December 31, 1994 with the new dryers in service.
Accordingly, the condensation concerns have appropriately been resolved.
As such, we consider all actions initiated, pursuant to the requirements of Generic letter 88-14, to be closed for Catawba. If there are any questions, please contact Jeff Imwery at (803) 831-3414.
