Resilient Seals
Reference:
(1) NRC Letter, " Resolution of MPA B-24, Containment Purge and Vent Isolation Valves (TAC No. M81902),"
dated January 12, 1993.
In Reference 1, the NRC identified the need to replace, at least every 5 years, the resilient seals for containment isolation valves V-27-1 through 4, V-23-13 through 16, and V-28-17 and 18.
In lieu of this 5 year seal replacement, GPU Nuclear plans to implement a maintenance / surveillance program of durometer hardness testing and visual inspection for the resilient seals.
This program is in addition to the existing seat leakage testing performed during each refueling outage.
Seal replacement will not be based on calendar age but rather on physical condition as monitored by this maintenance / surveillance program.
Details of the program and supporting technical basis is provided in Attachment I.
It is GPU Nuclear's intention to implement this program during the upcoming 15R Refueling Outage which is scheduled for September 1994.
