Dear Mr. Keppler:

This letter serves as the interim report pursuant to 10CFR50.55(e) concerning material traceability for the IR72 System Class 1E Electrical Penetrations furnished by Westinghouse Electric Corporation. Mr. J. Konklin of your office was notified on August 24, 1983, by Mr. E. Riley of The Cleveland Electric Illuminating Company that this problem was being evaluated. This report contains a description of the deficiency and measures being taken to complete our evaluation for significance.

Description of Deficiency Westinghouse Electric Corporation supplied Class IE electrical penetrations to the Perry Nuclear Power Plant (PNPP) under procurement specification 563.

This specification requires that materials for pressure retaining parts of the electrical assembly be in accordance with ASME Section III, Subsection NE. It has been identified that twenty-six penetrations contain bulkhead material which may not meet procurement requirements of ASME Section III as required.

Completion of Reportability Evaluation Further investigation is required to determine a disposition. At present, a September 21, 1983, meeting has been scheduled with the Westinghouse Electric Corporation subvendor from which the subject material was procured. Results of the meeting will determine further course of action.
