Docket No. STN 50-482 Ref: I&E Bulletin 83-06, Nonconfonning Materials Supplied by Tube-Line Corporation, dated 7/22/83 Subj: Interim Potential 10CFR50.55(e) Report -

Tube-Line

Dear Mr. Seidle :

This letter provides an interim report on a poter.tial 10CFR50.55(e) matter concerning fittings manufactured by the Tube-Line Corporation.

This item was initially reported to Mr. William Johnson of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Region IV, by Mr. Otto Maynard of Kansas Gas and Electric Company (KG&E) on August 12, 1983.

As a result of the information provided in the Reference, KG&E identified seven elbows installed or in the warehouse that were manufactured by the Tube-Line Corporation. All seven elbows were ordered for safety-related applications. Two elbows (4 inch, 45 degree, ASTM-A-234, schedule 40, ASME III, Class 3, Heat No. EUDC) were in the warehouse and have been placed on hold. Four elbows (8 inch, 45 degree, ASTM-A-234, schedule 40, ASME III, Class 3, Heat No. EWTQ) were installed in the component Cooling Water System. These four elbows have been cut out and replaced with safety-related elbows from another manufacturer. The seventh elbow (4 inch, 90 degree, ASME-SA-234, schedule 80, ASME III, Class 2, Heat No. EXJN) was installed in the Auxiliary Feedwater System. This elbow has also been replaced with a safety-related elbow from another manufacturer.

Although KG&E believes that the seven elbows described above are the only safety-related fittings that were procured from Tube-Line Corporation, the investigation of this concern has not been concluded. The status of this investigation will be reported to you on or before November 25, 1983.
