This extension of time will be required to respond' to
~
those issues in Generic Letter 83-28 regarding Section 2.1, Equipment' Classification and Vendor Interf ace.(Reactor Trip System components)l and Section 4.5, Reactor Trip System
~ Reliability -(System Functional Testing).
iBecause'our BWR plants do.not share the des gn features
~
i which f ailed at the Salem ~ plant, we consider a, time extension to-
..have _no significant impact on public health 'and safety.
q,=
.While participating in the 'BWROG program, -we -will icontinue 'to;evaluatefour capabilities in more detail.
After
-completion of the' BWROG-developed guidelines f or assessing -plant capabilities ;in response to. Reference.1,_ we.will develop the NRC requested. documentation:of our' plant assessment and submit our response to these ' issues. to the NRC by February 29, 1984.
We -are also requesting an extension of time = for J
-responding to'Section 2.2.2 of the Generic Letter.
We are a member of a-INPO Nuclear - Utility Task Action Committee' (NUTAC) f ormed on September.1,1983, ' f or the specific purpose of defining an appropriate vendor-interface program for all other safety related_ components..In. view of our continuing participi tion in
-;the INPO-Significant Event 3 valuation & Information Network (SEE-
~IN)(program, which provides us with timelyf inf ormation regarding industry experiences and: potential-concerns, we believe that a-time' extension will have no-immediate impact on public health and 2
safety.
While participating' in the -NUTAC, we will concurrently -
-evaluate, in more detail,' our existing ~. capabilities 'for.
i
- interfacing with:our, vendors. _After, completion of'the'NUTAC's eff orts, which Jis ~ expected to be complete ~ by LFebruary 1, 1984, we
