South Texas Project Units 1 & 2 Docket Nos. STN 50-498, STN 50-499 NSSS Equipment Installation Repor_t For your information attached is a report entitled " Status of NSSS Related Nonconformance Reports", provided to Houston Lighting & Power Co.
(HL&P) by Bechtel Energy Corporation. This report was prepared as a result of anomalies originally discovered in the position of the steam generators in l
Unit 1.
After identification of the steam generator location anomalies, a
survey and review of the as-installed condition of all NSSS equipment in Unit I was undertaken.
The status of this review and remaining action items are summarized in the attached report.
An underlying cause for these anomalies has not been identified, however a review of the installation procedures for the NSSS equipment has revealed that a detailed procedure with specified tolerances was developed and used for installing the reactor pressure vessel (RPV).
Other NSSS components were installed using " issued for construction" drawings and a general equipment installation procedure which referenced general tolerance requirements for location and alignment as well as specific design requirements imposed by Westinghouse.
The item regarding the RPV has been reported as "potentially reportable" pursuant to 10CFR50.55(e), however, no adverse affect on the safe operation of the South Texas Project (STP), due to the conditions reviewed to date, has been identified.
