20555 Attention:
.Ms. E. G. Adensam, Chief Licensing Branch No. 4 Re: McGuire Nuclear Station Docket Nos. 50-369, 50-370
Dear Mr. Denton:
Our letter of May 6, 1983 requested NRC approval of two deviations from NFPA 72D-1975 concerning local fire alarms. This letter provides supplementary information in response to NRC staff questions regarding that request.
As stated in our May 6, 1983 letter, a tone generator is used to provide the local fire alarm over the public address (PA) system inside containment.
If a fault should occur in the tone generator, it would not defeat the voice page capability of the PA system inside containment. The tone generator is wired in parallel with the PA system amplifiers. Therefore, disabling the tone
. generator will not disable the PA system.
If a fault occurs in the control circuit of the tone generator, the tone generator will either be disabled or spuriously actuated. The AC power circuit of the tone generator is protected from overload by a fuse rated at 1/16 ampere.
If this fuse opens, the PA system capability is unaffected.
Please advise if there are additional questions.
Very truly yours, b
