10 CFR 20, Appendix. A, Note (h) requires calibration of airline pressure gauges-used with supplied-air hoods.
Contrary to the above, airline pressure gauges on supply manifolds used with supplied-air hoods-for~ steam generator work during the period March 15 to April-13, 1983, were not calibrated.-
Response
Duke Power. Company agrees that the air supply manifold for.these hoods had pressure gauges which had not been calibrated at McGuire Nuclear Station contrary to 10 CFR 20.
Supplied-air hoods were in use at McGuire Nuclear-Station.between March 15 and April 13, 1983. This violation occurred because personnel at McGuire were not aware of the requirements of footnote (h) to Appendix A of 10 CFR 20.
Corrective action consisted of checking the calibration of all pressure gauges used on portable manifolds to determine the-operating condition of each gauge.
All gauges were'found to be within' acceptable limits.
It should be noted that if any of these pressure gauges had been out of calibration, gauge replacement would have been required since there is no calibration adjustment. To avoid further. problems in.this area a health physics procedure " Verification of Air-Line Pressure ~ Gauges" was written and included in the station Health Physics Manual. This procedure has been approved and implemented. All of the manifold pressure gauges have been incorporated into the health physics calibration schedule for verification on an annual basis. With all of the actions that have been taken and planned McGuire Nuclear Station is in full compliance with the requirements of 10 CFR 20. Appendix A.
