Nine Mile Point Unit 1 Docket No. 50-220 DPR -63 Gentlemen:
On May 30, 1991, the NRC Staff approved Inservice Testing Relief Request CTS-RR-2 for the containment spray system for an interim period of one year or until the next refueling outage (1992), whichever is longer. This relief request provides relief from the full stroke exercising requirement of ASME Code,Section XI, paragraph IVV-3522, for four containment spray pump discharge check valves.
The purpose of this letter is to inform you that the required system flow rate in Relief Request CTS-RR-2 of 3300 gpm is being revised. Recent design basis reconstitution analyses have concluded that 3600 gpm is the required maximum safety flow. As discussed with the NRC Project Manager, Mr. Brinkman, the NRC safety evaluation basis for granting interim relief vas for testing requirements and not on the containment spray flow rate. Thus, it is understood that the NRC safety evaluation which granted interim relief for 3300 gpm is adequate to justify a higher flow rate of 3600 gpm without revising the Relief Request or the NRC Safety Evaluation.
If you have any further questions in regard to this letter, please contact me.
