Dear Mr. Denton:
1 Section 13.3.2.8 of Supplement 1 to the Catawba Safety Evaluation Report provides, in part, a discussion of Open Item 16, Emergency Planning and Related Meteorology. Specifically, this section noted the following:
(4) The description of the updated meteorological system should be revised to clarify the method of obtaining the offsite meteorology data from the National Weather Service at Douglas Airport, the applicability of the data to the Catawba site, and the timeliness of these data.
In response to this item the following information is provided:
Offsite meteorological data from the National Weather Service at Douglas Airport will be available by telephone for use during radiological emergencies.
Hourly wind data should suffice as a first approximation for low-level (10m) wind conditions at the Catawba site. These data may be obtained imediately following the hourly observation.
