Docket No. STN 50-482 Subj: Potential 10CFR50.55(e) Report - Bergen-Paterson Weld Beam Attachments
Dear Mr. Seidle:
This letter provides an interim report on a potential 10CFR50.55(e) matter concerning laminations in three weld beam attachments. This matter was initially reported by Mr. Otto Maynard of Kansas Gas and Electric Company to Mr. William Johnson of the Nucleer Regulatory Commission, Region IV, on June 17, 1983.
During installation of a Bergen-Paterson weld beam attachment (Part No. 2003, Size 10) a lamination was discovered in the base member.
Investigation of this matter has revealed two additional attachments of the same size and part number which also have laminations in the base member. All three attachments in question were from Lot No.
98012010BV and the laminations were discovered prior to installation.
This matter is currently under evaluation by the Architect / Engineer and Bergen-Paterson. In addition, a nonconformance report has been initiated to provide proper documentation and tracking of the resolution of this concern. The status of this evaluation and resolution will be reported to you on or before October 28, 1983. In the interim, please direct any questions concerning this subject to me or to Mr. Otto Maynard of my staff.
