Dear Mr. Seidle:
This letter provides an inter.'m report on the subject potential 10CFR50.55(e). This matter was initially reported by Kansas Gas and Electric Company on February 18, 1983, and additional information was provided in the Reference.
The investigation of this issue is still in progress and to date KG&E has not identified any questionable materials supplied by the Ray Miller Corporation that were used in safety-related applications.
It is anticipated that the investigation and evaluation of this matter will take several more months due to the lack of specific information available on this subject. Supplement 1 to Information Notice 83-01 stated that a Bulletin may be forthcoming with a list of all purchase orders that apparently involve fraudulent substitution of materials.
This type of specific information will be extremely helpful in KG&E's investigation of this matter.
The status of the evaluation of this issue will be reported to you on or before January 30, 1984. In the interim, please direct any questions on this subject to me or to Mr. Otto Maynard of my staff.
