SUMMARY

OF OPERATING EXPERIENCE Virgil C.

Summer Nuclear Station, Unit No. 1, achieved criticality at 0400 hours0.00463 days
0.111 hours
6.613757e-4 weeks
1.522e-4 months
on May 20, 1983, after a 63-day outage for modification of the Westinghouse D-3 Steam Generators.

On May 7, 1983, at 0530 hours0.00613 days
0.147 hours
8.763227e-4 weeks
2.01665e-4 months
, a station alert was declared due to a fire in the "C" Component Cooling Water Pump Spec'. Changer Switch.

The fire, which was in reality just smoke jroduced from the overheating of a small solenoid located in the pump speed changer switch, was extinguished by deenergizing the equipment at 0532 hours0.00616 days
0.148 hours
8.796296e-4 weeks
2.02426e-4 months
.

The plant was returned to normal status at 0539 hours0.00624 days
0.15 hours
8.912037e-4 weeks
2.050895e-4 months
.

On May 22, 1983, at 1359 hours0.0157 days
0.378 hours
0.00225 weeks
5.170995e-4 months
, a reactor trip occurred from Low-Low level in Steam Generator "C" with the reactor at 14%

power.

The cause of this trip was identified to be the result of procedural inadequacies while using the new forward / reverse flush procedure on the feedwater system.

On May 28, 1983, at 0230 hours0.00266 days
0.0639 hours
3.80291e-4 weeks
8.7515e-5 months
, the reactor tripped at 72% power f rom a turbine trip due to high vibration on #9 bearing.

On May 29, 1983, at 0230 hours0.00266 days
0.0639 hours
3.80291e-4 weeks
8.7515e-5 months
, the reactor tripped at 14% power on Low-Low level 4.n Steam Generator "C" during swapover from Bypass to Main Fetdwater.

On May 31, 1983, Virgil C.

Summer Nuclear Station was at 74% power and power ascension testing was continuing.
