Dear Mr. Novak:

South Texas Project Units 1 & 2 Docket Nos. STN 50-498, STN 50-499 Schedule for Submittal of Responses to NRC Questions 32.42, 32.44 and 32.45 Houston Lighting & Power Company (HL&P) has previously informed you that responses to FSAR Questions 32.42 (Loss of Non Class IE Instrument and Control Power System Bus During Operation) and 32.45 (Control System Failures) were to be provided prior to September 30, 1983. The response to FSAR Question 32.44 (Qualification of Control Systems) was to be provided by July 1, 1983.

However, the extensive review and redesign effort assoc, ated with the South Texas Project control systems requires that these responses be deferred until May of 1984. At that time, the responses will be submitted in conjunction with a revision to Chapter Seven of the FSAR, consistent with the Licesning Schedule provided to Mr. Eisenhut in our May 17, 1983 letter.

Very truly yours, J. H. Goldberg Vice President Nuclear Engineering & Construction SSR/kr
