Sway Strut Washers
Dear Mr. Seidle:
This letter provides an interim report on a potential 10CFR50.55(e) matter concerning installation of paddle washers on piping sway struts at Wolf Creek Generating Station. This concern was initially reported by Mr. Gene Rathbun of Kansas Gas and Electric Company (KG&E) to Mr. William Johnson of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Region IV, on July 15, 1983.
During recent walkdowns by KG&E Construction and Startup personnel, several sway struts were identified which may have incorrect paddle washers installed or the washers installed incorrectly. The washers in question are supplied with the sway struts and final assembly is performed in the field. The Architect / Engineer is pursuing this concern with the vendors to determine what the washer requirements are for the struts in question.
The status of the evaluation and resolution of this concern will be reported to you on or before November 4, 1983.
