Dear Mr. Denton:

In compliance with the requirements of Amendment No. 1 to Facility Operating License No. NPF North Anna Power Station, Unit No. 1, the following system change is submitted for your information:

On July 7, 1978, a portable, charcoal and mixed-resin bed de-mineralizer was installed in the decontamination building inside a waste solidification cubicle. High level liquid waste is now being treated and then returned to the low level liquid waste tanks prior to release. The low level tanks are then recirculated, sampled and analyzed before release.

Temporary hoses have been attached (via Jumper Log) pending approval of a design change which will serve to install permanent piping for the demin-eralizer. Chem-Nuclear's system, acting primarily an an ion-exchanger, allows an additional liquid waste processing capability of between 20 and 30 gpm.

The design specifications will meet the specifications of the existing system and all additional piping vill be located in areas pre-viously designated for liquid waste processing. This design change will have no adverse effect on station operations or the operation of safety (n) sciated equipment.

There will be no environmental impact which was not evaluated by the Commission, since the release of radioactive materials in liquids was evaluated in the Final Environmental Statement and the proposed change will not change the ETS for the Station.

Very truly yours, 6.D7kw&
