Prompt Notification of a Reportable Occurrence File: A-118a, TE-2

Dear Mr. Keppler:

This letter, telecopied to your office, is intended to satisfy the requirement for prompt notification of a Reportable Occurrence in accordance with Specification 6.11.2.a of the Duane Arnold Energy Center Technical Specifications.

Technical Specification paragraph: 4.7.A.2.c Description of Occurrence:

During Type C local leak rate testing, performed following shutdown for our Cycle 7 refueling outage on February 12, 1983, it was determined that two Main Steam Isolation Valves exceeded the DAEC Technical Specification Acceptance Criteria of 11.5 SCFH. These isolation valves, CV 4415 and CV 4416, are in series. These valves have been repaired.

This was reported in letter NG-83-1641 Larry D. Root to James G. Keppler, dated May 2,1983, and is being reported in the manner pursuant to a  ;

technical specification interpretation provided by the NRC Site Resident Inspector on May 5,1983.
