Docket No. 50-361 Prompt Reoort Licensee Event Report No.83-026 San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station, Unit 2 Pursuant to Section 6.9.1.12.b of Appendix A, Technical Specifications to Facility Operating License NPF-10, for San Onofre Unit 2, this submittal provides the written confirmation of our April 4,1983 discussion with the NRC Resident Inspectors of a reportable occurrence involving the Containment Isolation valves.
On April 4,1983 at 1345 while Unit 2 was in Mode 3, Containment Isolation Valve 2HV8248 (main steam relief header trap isolation valve) was declared inoperable.
Limiting Condition for Operation (LCO) 3.6.3 requires, among other things, the maintenance of at least one operable isolation valve in each penetration.
Since this requirement was not met, LC0 3.0.3 was invoked at 1440 and cooldown was initiated.
The valve was repaired and declared operable at 1600 at which time the cooldown was terminated.
A 14-day follow-up report and copy of Licensee Event Report (LER) No.83-026 will be sutxnitted by April 18, 1983 to address this event.
