Oconee Nuclear Station Docket Nos. 50-269, -270, -287 l

Dear Sir:

By letter dated February 25, 1983, the NRC issued IE Bulletin 83-01, Failure j of Reactor Trip Breakers (Westinghouse DB-50) to open on Automatic Trip Signal. '

Duke has reviewed the Oconee plant design and has determined that the DB-50 breaker with an undervoltage trip attachment is not in use at Oconee.

In a followup action to the event at the Salem plant that caused the issuance of this bulletin, Duke, as well as other members of the B&W Owners Group, met with the NRC Task Force on March 8, 1983 to discuss with the Task Force the issues related to the event. As a result of this meeting, no further immediate actions were identified.

Duke will continue to evaluate the information from this event as it becomes available and will take any actions deemed necessary.

Very truly yours,
