~ Annual Emergency; Exercise Participation In our letter 5211-82-305, dated December 30, 1982, GPU Nuclear Corporation committed to provide by March 31, 1983 an update on the status of negotiations with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania concerning exercise participation in the 1983 Annual Exercise.

I am pleased to report, in accordance with the attached letter from the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency, the level of partici-pation by the State and local governments will be consistent with the provisions of 10 CFR 50, Appendix E.

The exercise is. tentatively schedsled for November 2,'1983.

The attached letter also provides exercise planning information for 1984 and 1985.

NUREG 0654/FDIA-REP-1 requires that each state and appropriate associated risk county and municipal governments annually conduct joint, full scale exercises with appropriate commercial nuclear power facilities.

States with more than one site may rotate the facility with which they conduct their annual, full scale joint exercise. This creates a once every five years annual exercise pattern with any particular facility for the state staff.

For your planning purposes, the CY 1983 exercise schedule has-been re. vised as a result of a conference held between representatives of the nuclear power plants, PD!A representatives, and FDIA representatives held at FD!A Region III on January 19, 1983.' Note the Peach Bottom and TMI changes, a.

Wednesday, February 16, 1983, Beaver Valley-Pennsylvania annual, full scale, joint exercise with full state, county and municipal staff participation.
