VIRGINIA ELECTRIC AND POWER COMPANY NORTH ANNA POWER STATION UNIT NOS. 1 AND 2 CHANGES TO THE NPDES PERMIT In accordance with Section 3.2 of the Environmental Protection Plan (Appendix B,
Part II-Non-Radiological), the Virginia Electric and Power Company is required to notify the Nuclear Regulatory Commission of changes to the NPDES Permit and State Certification for North Anna Units 1 and 2.
On June 6, 1983, the Virginia State Water Control Board Staff recommended and the Board approved that the Virginic Electric and Power Company perform a study relating to the impact of thermal discharges on the biota in Lake Anna (316(a) Study). The field study will be completed by December 31, 1985 and a draft report will be made by March, 1986.
The Board also instructed the Staff to reissue the Section 401 Certification and NPDES Permit with references to the 316(a) study incorporated into the documents.

-e, u ATTACHMENT 1 INTERIM ACTIONS FOR THE STATE WATER CONTROL BOARD STAFF TO INITIATE, Revoke Vepco's August 29, 1973, 401 Certification for North Anna Units 3 and 4.
Modify and reissue Vepco's August 29, 1973, 401 Certification and June 2, 1977 N1" DES Permit to:
incorporate the requirements for performance of the 316(a) study, include reopeners for the inclusion of effluent limitations as appropriately indicated by the 316(a) study, revise the temperature monitoring program, incorporate an emergency clause to provide for immediate corrective action (s) should a problem (s) develop prior to the completion of the 316(a) study.
Report back to the Virginia State Water Control Board on the status of this issue at the September, 1983 meeting.
