Carolf na Powcr & Light Co::ipany has completed a re riew of the H. B.
Robinson Steam Electric Plant Unit No. 2 (HBR2) cooling water system in accordance with required action f of IE lulletin No. 83-03. Check Valve Failures in Raw Water Cooling Systems of Diesel Generators. The HBR2 servicej water system provides raw cooling water to the lube o12 cooler; ' Jacket water heat excharger, air cocler, ar.d the air start system air dryer rne each cf thi 1
diesel generators. The ] cooling water is provided via tranch ccnnectinne fros-the main service water henders which rsre operating during rornal plant
,- 4 conditions. There are no check valves installed in,tlie branch.: connectiori piping from the main eervlee water headers to the ' diesel generstop components-mentioned above, or from these components to tho' service water return header. Therefore, 'requiied actions '2 threugh 5 of IE Bulletin No.' 83-03 are not applicable based on the' die,sel generator cooling water system' design.
Carolina Power & ' Light Company has spent approximately ten man-hours reviewing the system and preparisg n-response'to this IE Bulletin. j.
