Dear Sir:
In References (c) and (d), we filed interim 10CFR50.55(e) reports regarding the potential for certain Westinghouse manufactured gate valves to provide indication that they are closed prior to the valve disc, fully isolating flow.
The Westinghouse generic wiring specifications incorporate a motor operated valve limit stitch setting which may provide, under certain conditions, an erroneous indication that the valve is fully closed when, in actuality, it may be slightly open.
If the valve were to bind subsequent to receipt of a closure indication, an intersystem leakage path may go unrecognized.
Weetinghouse has provided r, recommended modification to the generic wiring specification via a Field Change Notice. This change provides a new procedure for setting and connecting the limit switch to ensure-that upon receipt of a closure indication the flow path has been essentially isolated.
