Subj ect: Oyster Creek Nuclear Generating Station Docket No. 50-219 IE Bulletin No. 83-03:
Check Valve Failures in Raw Water Cooling Systems of Diesel Generators The Oyster Creek Nuclear Generating Station utilizes two redundant diesel generators as emergency onsite AC power sources in the event of fsite AC power is unavailable. The diesel generators were supplied by Electro-Motive Division of General Motors. The diesel engine cooling system for each engine is an integral, closed-loop system unlike the raw water system used at Dresden.
Upon receipt of subject-related IE Information Notice No. 82-08, " Check Valve Failures on Diesel Generator Engine Cooling System," dated March 25, 1982, an investigation was initiated to determine its applicability to Oyster Creek.
The investigation concluded that there are no check valves in the closed-loop diesel engine cooling system for either diesel generator at Oyster Creek. As a result, the specific concern expressed in the subject Bulletin is not applicable to this facility.
