The purpose of this letter is to provide a status report on the potentially loose stud / nut combinations in the diesel generators at Wolf Creek Generating S tation. This matter was initially reported to Region IV of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission on June 14, 1982 by Kansas Gas and Electric Company, and subsequent status reports were submitted in References 1), 2) and 3).
The retorquing of the diesel generator stud / nut combinations in question has been completed. Some of the stud / nut combinations were found to be slightly under torqued and were subsequently tightened to meet the manufacturer specified torqued valves. The "as found" stud / nut combination torque valves have been documented and sent to the manufacturer for their evaluation of safety implications to determine reportability of this concern in accordance with 10CFR50.55(e).
The results, or status, of the manufacturer's evaluation will be reported to you on or before August 1,1983.
Again, the results of this evaluation are only needed for determining reportability since the diesel generators at Wolf Creek have been reworked and no additional corrective action will be required for this matter. Please direct any questions concerning this subject to me or to Mr. Otto Maynard of my staff.
