SUBJECT:

LER 83-21 (U-1)

Dear Mr. Allant This report is to confirm our verbal notification of your Operation Center on Apri130 of an error in the assumptions used for the Main Steam Line Break (MSLB) accident analysis (T.S. 6.9.1.8.h).

To address the speelffe concerns of the IEB 80-04 we have performed a reanalysis of the MSLB cvent assuming a failure of the Main Feed Regulating Valve (MFRY) (falled open).

The original MSLB analyses presented in the PSAR did not assume such a failure. Our OSSRC has determined that this omission was erroneous.

A yet to be completed series of analyses has revealed that incorporation of this assumption into our current lleensing basis for MSLB will probab!y yield results for peak containment temperature and pressure and for core reactivity response that exceed the current design basis. Analytical work is proceeding to verify these conclusions.

Additional Information will be provided in the written followup report. This report will discuss those corrective actions that have been implemented or are being planned.

Very truly yours, i
