Dear Mr. Seidle:
This letter provides an update on the evaluation of the failed studs on an Essential Service Water (ESW) pipe support embedded plate.
The Reference stated that a final report from the Architect / Engineer (A/E) was due in late March. Hcweter, recent NRC review comments have caused a delay in the original schedule.
As part of their safety evaluations, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission contracted for an independent statistical analysis of the seismic hazards at the Wolf Creek site. The statistical analysis resulted in a probabilistic seismic response spectrum which exceeds the original design spectrum for site-specific (non-SNUPPS) Category I structures, including the ESW pumphouse.
It is necessary to resolve the impact of the higher ground acceleration on the ESW pumphouse prior to finalizing an evaluation of the failed studs.
The status of the failed studs evaluation will be reported to you on or before June 23, 1982.
