Mr. James P. O'Reilly, Regional Administrator U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Region II 101 Marietta Street, NW, Suite 2900 Atlanta, Georgia 30303 Re: McGuire Nuclear Station Unit 2 Doclet No. 50-370
Dear Mr. O'Reilly:
My Decenber 30, 1982 letter submitted (pursuant to 10 CFR 50.55e) an interim Ei;nificant Deficiency Report (S3 370/82-06) concerning ITT Barton Class lE t
transmitters efaibiting thermal non-repeatability.
Since our last report dated January 10, 1083, inforizatica has been supplied to Westinghouse by IIT Barten detailing the magnitude of bcunding errors for tlse NSS transmitters in question (1 percent for pressure transmitters and 1.25 percent for differential pressure transmitters). Based on the ITT Batton information, Duke and Westinghouse have performed a oroliminary assessmet t of the inpact of these changes in stated accuracies cA the specific N1:SS Bartori Lot 5 transmitter applications. The results of the assecumet.:t indicate that sufficient margin exists in the existing protection system setpoints to accommodate thcse changes in stated accuracies.
Further detailed studies by Westingnouse are in progress and the results of these studies are expected by mid-March. Duke will provide a follow-up report by March 31, 1983.
Very truly yours, fS.f ff Hal B. Tucker WIN /php cci Director Mr. W. T. Orders Office of Inspection & Enforcement NRC Senior Resident Inspector U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission McGuire Nuclear Station Washington, D. C. 20555 h{HCIAL COPY
