Dear Mr. Bernard:

By letter of October 8,1982, UCIA amended its pending application (February, 1980) for renewal of its license for a Class 104 Research Reactor Facility. The amendment included a statment on page 5 which amended the Special Nuclear Material license application to authorize possession of less than 5000 gms of enriched U-235.

It has ccxne to our attention that our present license (R-71) provides for a larger inventory. In order to be consistent with our present inventory and intentions, we request an amendment to our present license (as amended October 26, 1970), to reduce the authorized possession limit of U-235 to less than 5000 gms.
