20555 Perry Nuclear Power Plant Docket Nos. 50-440; 50-441 Response to Information Requests for Plant Site Audit for Seismic and Dynamic Qualification Review

Dear Mr. Yoingblood:

This letter and its attachments are provided in response to your letter dated November 30, 1983 regarding the site audit for seismic and dynamic qualification review.

We are hereby submitting sample documentation packages for your review and information as described in Attachment 1. A list of the documents sent directly to the Licensing Project Manager, Mr. J. Stefano, is included as Attachment 2.

It should be noted that your request for information requires detailed description of the ongoing seismic and dynamic qualification testing programs. This information has been previously supplied to the Region IV staff, as agreed in our May 12, 1982 meeting with NRR and I & E Region IV. This agreement is documened in a June 2,1982 letter from D. R. Davidson to A. Schwencer.

Finally, a meeting is scheduled for February 3,1983 in Bethesda, Maryland with the Equipment Qualification Branch staff. Schedules for the seismic and dynamic qualification review audit will be discussed at that time.

If you have any questions, please let me know.

Very truly yours, I'301250194 830117 Murray R.

6 Attachment i Sample qualification packages are provided in response to the Equipment Qualification Branch, Audit Review Teams request for information. Since it is the NRC staff's intention to perform the site audit on a sampling basis, we have enclosed " sample packages" for one pump and one valve both for NSSS and Balance of Plant (BOP) systems.

As a general note, the sample packages that we have submitted, indicate the method that Perry Nuclear Power Plant (PNPP) has used to demonstrate seismic and dynamic qualification. As these are sample packages for advance information and review, some minor items on the forms are not complete. These will be completed for the PVORT on-site audit. Specific comments concerning the sub-mittal file packages are as follows:

1)

BOP Valve (IE21F0034) - The valve chosen to represent this category is a water leg pump discharge isolation in the low pressure core spray system. The valve serves a stop-check function. PNPP uses a " Bill of Material" method for valve procurement, whereby, a large number of identically designed valves can be bought under a common " Bill of Material" number. We are sending one page of the computerized valve listing which identifies IE21F0034 as a valve type ROR201. The entire valve list will be made available for your on-site review.

2)

BOP Pump (IR45C0001 A) - The pump chosen is the diesel generator fuel oil transfer pump.

3)

NSSS Pump (E21C001) and Valve (E22F012) - The equipment chosen for our sample package is a Low Pressure Core Spray pump and a HQh Pressure Core Spray motor operated valve. The PVORT forms submitted is based on another General Electric project.
