Subject:

McGuire Nuclear Station Docket Nos. 50-369 and 50-370 Proposed Technical Specifications Change Increase in Minimum Diesel Generator Fuel Oil Storage Requirement (T.S. 3/4.8.1 and Bases Section 3/4.8)

Gentlemen:

Pursuant to 10CFR 50.4 and 50.90, attached is a proposed license amendment to Appendix A, Technical Specifications, of Facility Operating Licenses NPF-9 and NPF-17 for McGuire Nuclear Station Units 1 and 2, respectively. The proposed amendment would increase the minimum volume of fuel oil for the emergency diesel generators from 28,000 gallons to 39,500 gallons for Moden 1 through 4. This change will add additional conservatism to the Technical Specifications by extending the time that each diesel generator can operate at full rated load before it becomes necessary to add fuel to the tank.

Attachment 1 contains the proposed Technical Specifications change.

Attachment 2 contains the justification and safety analysis for the l proposed change. Pursuant to 10CFR 50.91 Attachment 3 provides the analysis performed in accordance with the standards contained in 10CFR 50.92 which concludes that the proposed amendment does not involve a Significant Hanards Consideration. Duke Power is forwarding a copy of this amendment request application and No Significant llazards Consideration Analysis to the North Carolina Department of Human Resources. The proposed amendment has been reviewed and has been determined to have no adverse safety or environmental impact.

Should there be any questions concerning this proposed amendment or if additional information is required, please call L.J. Rudy at (704) 373-3413.

Very truly yours, f h.
