M Power C O n p o m a v e o se December 17,1982 3F-1282-18 Mr. Darrell G. Eisenhut, Director Division of Licensing Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, D.C. 20555
Subject:
Crystal River Unit 3 Docket No. 50-302 Operating License No. DPR-72 Generic Letter 81-12 on Fire Protection
Dear Mr. Eisenhut:
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission requested Florida Power to respond to 25 specific items in our Appendix R submittal, during a telephone conference on October 19, 1982.
When we submitted our Appendix R submittal on October 29,1982, we were not ready to respond to Item 11. That item and its Response are as follows:
Item 11:
Show that we can manually operate the Diesel Generator and all other automatic systems not isolated from fires in the Control Room.
Response 11: Automatic starting of the Diesel Generators on loss of voltage is being relied upon for safe plant shutdown in the event of a fire. Consequently, all Diesel Generator controls located in the inain control room will be isolated to assure that a Control Room or Cable Spreading Room fire will not jeopardize the automatic starting and operation of the Diesel i
Generators. The isolation circuitry is presently being designed by our I
architect engineer. For each Diesel Generator, the Control Room controls for the governor and one of the redundant start circuits will be isolated.
The Control Room controls for the Diesel Generator stop circuit will be isolated to preclude inadvertent stopping of the Diesels in the event of a fire in the Control Room or Cable Spreading Room.
There are no other automatically centrolled systems in the Control Room ng that are relied upon for safe shutdown of the plant in the event of a fire.
