Dear Mr. Vassal.1.o:
On November 30, 1982, a meeting was held with representatives from Carolina Power & Light Company (CP&L), Raychem Corporation, and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) concerning the use of Raychem/Flamtrol cable at the Brunswick Steam Electric Plant, Unit Noc. I and 2.
As a result of these discussions and our evaluation of this matter, CP&L cemits to perform qualification testing of certain Raychem cable in use at the Brunswick Plant. This cable is the radiation cross-linked polyethylene cable having a combined insulation thickness of 120 mils or greater. Carolina Pbwer & flght Company will test the cable in conjunction with our ongoing environmental qualification program under IE Bulletin 79-01B.
We will provide a draft, when available, of our proposed cable qualification test program for NRC review, and members of the Staff will be invited to witness the testing. This process was discussed with the Staff during our November 30, 1982 meeting. We will continue to keep you apprised of our progress on this item.
