20555 Dear Sirs Subjects Oyster Creek Nuclear Generating Station Docket No. 50-219 Notification of Intent to Invoke ASME Code Case N-461 On February 15, 1991, CPU Nuclear will concence the 13R refueling outage at the Oyster Creek Nuclear Generating Station.
One of the major evolutions scheduled during the outage is the replacement of major portions of the piping system for both Isolation condensors.
To ensure timely completion of this project, GPU Nuclear has determined that it will be necessary to invoke ASME Code Case N-461, " Alternate Rules for Piping Calibration Plock Thickness",Section XI Division 1.
This code case specifies that the acceptable range for calibration block thickness le 125% of the pipe wall thicknece to be measured.
Non Dertructive Testing (NDT) of pipe and weld thicknees le performed prior to any Ultrasonic Testing (UT) for defects.
This preliminary testing establiches the weld profile and verifice base material thickness. CPUN ib acquiring calibration blocks for all anticipated size and thickness ranges, but has determined that should an unanticipated condition arise, invoking the criteria specified by N-461 would minimite the potential impact on the outage critical path work.
