Interim 10CFR50.55(e) Report ; Solid State Protection System Power Surge

Dear Sir:

On August 5,1982, we reported a po'ential 10CFR50.55(e) deficiency

[ Reference (b)] regarding power surges in the Solid State Protection System which may disable a protection circuit. Subsequently, on September 2,1982, we filed an interim report on the subject potential 10CFR50.55(e) item (Re ference (c)].

In a letter dated August 6,1982, to the Of fice of Inspection and Enf orcement, Westinghouse identified Seabrook as an effected customer and delineated modified Solid State Protection System testing procedures for operating plants to preclude disabling the protection circuit.

Based on the Westinghouse detennination that Seabrook is an effected plant, we feel this item is reportable under 10CFR50.55(c). A final report on this item will be submitted to Region I by January 15, 1983. This report is being filed pursuant to the interim reporting provision of 10CFR50.55(e)(3).

Very truly yours, YANKEE ATOMIC ELECTRIC COMPANY A<Ad>
