  1. 3F-1082-16 File:3-A-7 Mr. Gus C. Lainas, Assistant Director Operating Reactors Division of Licensing U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, DC 20555 ,

Subject:

Crystal River Unit 3 Docket No. 50-302 Operating License No. DPR-72 NUREG-0630, Cladding Swelling and Rupture Models for LOCA Analysis

Dear Mr. Lainas:

Florida Power Corporation (FPC) has received and reviewed your letter dated July 13, 1982, on the subject NUREG. We responded as requested on August 13, 1982, with a short term schedule to submit supplemental Emergency Core Cooling Systems calculations similar to those provided for the Midland Nuclear Fower Plant. That schedule committed to submit an appropriate report by February 14, 1983. Your July 13, 1982 letter also requested a long term schedule be developed and submitted on or before October 14, 1982.

However, because the short term work will not be complete until early next year and because the long term work is necessarily an extension of that short term work, FPC cannot submit a long term work schedule at this time. Upon concurrence of the short term report by the Nucisar Regulatory Concaission, FPC will submit a schedule to implement any necessary permanent modifications to our Emergency Core Cooling Systems Evaluation Models.

Very truly yours,

^
