Dear Mr. Denton:

DESIGN EVALUATION

SUMMARY

PRELIMINARY REPORT NORTH ANNA UNIT 3 In our letter of November 3,1981, Yepco provided a Licensing Schedule for the North Anna 3 Project.

One of the items on the Licensing Schedule was a Suciaary of the Design Evaluation.

You will find attached the preliminary design evaluations as provided to Vepco by Babcox & Wilcox on the NSS entitled

" Change Assessment Program", and by Stone & Webster on the overall Unit 3 design entitled " Design Evaluation, Preliminary Report." These reports remain under review by Yepco.

The decision for acceptance on many of these items has not been made.

These evaluations compare the original PSAR design with current guidance, such as the Standard Review Plans, the Three Mile Island Action Items and the 120 division one Regulatory Guides that have been issued sirce the PSAR.

The evaluation of the North Anna Thme design is not complete, additional work is in progmss, and as a msult, Yepco expects to make additional changes, deletions and/or improenents on the items contained in the attached mports.
