-Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation N0/JHL:acm Attn:

Mr. Darrell G. Eisenhut, Director Docket No. 50-338 Division of Licensing License No. NPF-4 U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, D. C. 20555 Gentlemen:

VIRGINIA ELECTRIC AND POWER COMPANY NORTH ANNA POWER STATION UNIT NO. 1 NUREG-0737 ITEM II.F.1.3 In our letter dated March 3,

1983, Vepco stated that the final in-situ calibration of the Containment High Range Radiation Monitors would be completed by September 30, 1984.

This date was based on the availability of the calibration source from the vendor Victoreen.

In recent conversations with Victoreen, Vepco understands that the prototype calibration source that Victoreen has. developed will be available by the end of March, 1983.

Vepco is in the process of procuring this prototype calibration source so the final in-situ calibration of the Containment High Range Radiation Monitors can be completed during the fall maintenance outage which is currently scheduled to bc completed by October 31, 1983.

The Containment High Range Radiation Monitors have been source calibrated at the vendor's facility and electronically calibrated in place in accordance with the vendor's procedures.

Until the final in-situ calibration of the Containment High Range Radiation Monitors can be performed, interim monitoring will be performed using the Containment Area Monitors, Manipulator Crane Area Monitor and the Incore Instrumentation Transfer Area Monitor.

Very truly yours, a

W. L. Stewart cc:
